DO YOU NEED A MORE POWERFUL ALTERNATOR FOR YOUR HIGH-TECH COMPONENTS?

It takes lots of amps to power your vehicle. But when you add big sound power, you need to produce lots of energy to produce no-clip, clean audio. A good rule of thumb is 16-amps of power for every 100-watts of audio output. (If you're into extreme audio, you'll also want an extra battery for every 500-watts of audio/amplifier draw.) Stock alternators can deliver only so many amps. And that delivery depends on engine speed. At idle, output is reduced and may not keep up with your sound system draw. Unless you go to certified installers who know electrical, you run the risk of buying components your vehicle just can't handle. What can happen? You could ruin your equipment, and even have an electrical fire. Many installs we've had to re-do, came from installers who simply didn't know or care to learn the basics. With today's power-drawing high-tech toys, installers can't just slap together a system without knowing the science behind what they're doing.
